4 years ago, Eddie from Los Angeles challenged me to run my first marathon.
I took up the challenge, ran the 42km and almost DIED. After crossing the finishing line, I swore I was never gonna run another marathon race again.
Eddie congratulated me. He said perhaps one day, I would fly to L.A. and join him for the L.A. Marathon. He even gave me a shirt that says “L.A. Marathon In Training”.
I laughed it off, thinking no chance in hell would I fly all the way to Los Angeles just to run a marathon. Back then, I did not even have the budget to do so.
Fast forward to 2010.
Here I am today in Los Angeles, fulfilling a gentleman’s promise I made 4 years ago.
It is the first time I have signed up for a marathon outside Malaysia or Singapore. I have worked really hard for this. The past 3 months, I have been juggling between writing for this blog, running my business and training for this marathon.
And in 1 hour’s time I’ll be running my race. I cannot wait.
25,000 people from all over the world has taken part in this race. “The Rock” Dwayne Johnson will be cheering from the side. Shia LeBouf (from Transformers), Sean Astin (from Lord of the Rings), Gordon Ramsey (the foul-mouthed chef) will all be running alongside me.
Wish me luck!
Goodluck Kenny! Hope u survive to keep us entertained.

Way to go kenny, u definitely need those run to lose weight!
congratulation !!! very good timing for someone who doesn’t train much. were you having cramps from 30km onwards as your timing slow down a lot from there…
05km : 00:35:13
10km : 01:12:25
15km : 01:49:28
20km : 02:29:59
25km : 03:17:09
30km : 04:10:03
35km : 05:02:49
40km : 05:47:38
42km : 06:02:39
average speed : 13.49km/hour
hope more of your readers will be encourange to pick up running after reading this blog. Malaysia is still a long way to achieve high standard of Marathon event status. people (incl Malayisan) rather run oversea country organised running event then local one. hope this will change when more local support local events…
Men with shaven legs are kinda gay…

hahaha! i’d like to see gordon ramsay run and swear at the same time!!
Congrate to u ya..Kenny..is a PB time for u ? cinya salute !
BTW..his average pace is impossible as below..
05km : 00:35:13
10km : 01:12:25
15km : 01:49:28
20km : 02:29:59
25km : 03:17:09
30km : 04:10:03
35km : 05:02:49
40km : 05:47:38
42km : 06:02:39
average speed : 13.49km/hour
Simple count,if Kenny run this pace,1 h 13.49km.2hrs 26.98km,3hrs is 41.47km,another less than 1km,so…Kenny will completed the race sub 3:05.
Actually Kenny pace is around 7km perhour.I met him b4 in Borneo, and snap his race foto.I think 6:02 is very good time for him,but he still can improve a lot !
Cheers

i also want to join in yr2040 lah..hehe
Hey dude, for a blogger who flew 9932 miles, you proved to be gentleman of strong will! That’s what marathon is all about.
You ran your personal best, although a blind man made it at 3:xx hr, a 10 year old boy beat you at 3:xx hr, a 46 year old Kuching lady kicked your ass with 4:46 on her first marathon and a 44 old year old kuching guy left you at 2.5 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTvD5uLUJX8) mile…you completed the run and the medal is yours to remind you of the heart and sweat you have put into L.A. Marathon 2010.
To young friends who are inspired, don’t just say it, sign up for the next marathon in your city. Of course you know what happened to the first marathoner. He died! You will have to put some effort to complete a full marathon. You will dedicate time to train, discipline yourself to go home early instead of partying all night to prepare for the next days training…run in the rain, under the hot sun. On that very day, when the tears roll down you cheek as you cross the finishing line..no matter if your friends are there to cheer you on or you are so low that the race has closed and you have to slowing complete the race running on side walk…crossing the line alone, the victory is yours!
One last warning, running the 26.2/40km can be habit forming.
Good luck.. 😀 and enjoy yourself..
WoW! Kenny Running at oversea! Great! i’m Looking forward for your final result after running in your next blog. Excited. =)
i would never be able to take part in marathon, too used to run on the treadmill that my joints hurt if i run on the road! Good luck dude!!
You mean to say you don’t have anything else better to do than to fly all the way to the other side of a planet to join a marathon ? No work ? I think it’s a pretty stupid reason to fly that far for a marathon, get real please Kenny and stop wasting your money.
You look alot healthier now compared to your “Before pic!” ;D
Good luck Kenny. Looking forward to your post about the LA Marathon.
Dude..you back? or did you actually die this time?
OMG Dwayna Johnson “The Rock” was there?
I’m a fan of his. If I was there at the marathon, half way running when I see him I would run towards him and hop into him and give him a hug. Hahaha 🙂
you run so much but how come u are still fat? *im asking this in a nice way,so dont get offended!*
